Today's Post is Interrupted by Mono

My darling teen has mono. She is one sick puppy. I'm putting out fires left and right at her school. Meanwhile, she is home and resting. I promise to be back after I get life back on track.

There's normal. Then there's the "new normal."

My "new normal" is to put my teen first, help her heal up, and then write. Anything else is secondary. I once read a story by a girl who had lupus. She said she only has so many spoons of energy per day. She keeps one in reserve.

Now I only have so many spoons of energy and time. I am parceling them out very judiciously. Priorities have shifted to make room for this new curve ball. And, you know what? That is okay. Life happens. Then we readjust. It is in being flexible and understanding what is most important that we get through the dicier parts of life.

Perhaps my lesson of the day is that it's okay not to do everything and to change your priorities instead of trying to do it all and falling apart when life throws you a curve ball.

How do you realign your priorities when life throws you a curve ball?

I'm sorry she's still so sick, Christine. Poor girl. And yep, sometimes you just have to reprioritize. We only get the kids for a few years. I don't think anyone ever regretted skipping work when their family needed them.

I'll send thoughts for a speedy recovery!

Thanks Gwen. I am keeping all non-essential writing duties (*aka volunteer stuff and blogging*) to a minimum till she is well. When I do have time to write, it will be to write the books that have deadlines.

They are precious. Period.

Hope she is well soon. I just trudge along. Sometime life is very sad.

Hi Patricia: Yes, sometimes life is very sad. Last week was filled with lots of painful news for us. Beverly Barton's sudden passing, another friend with a rare cancer, and just worry for my daughter. Trudging along is about the right way to think about it. One foot at a time.

Just keep walking.

Hugs!

I hope your daughter is better soon, Christine. Life does have a way of derailing what we thought important.

When life throws a curve, listen to the crowd roar, "Swing batter, batter, batter." Who knows? You might just hit it out of the park!

Gwynlyn: I love that metaphor! I am going to swing! One day I'll hit it out of the ball park!

Poor baby. So sick for the last of her senior year. I set my priorities by my deadlines. I spend a lot of time chasing my rump.

Hi Jean: thanks for popping in! Thank goodness she is a junior this year, but a lot of AP tests and finals just around the corner. Meanwhile I'm waiting for test results so I am a nervous momma.

I spend a lot of time chasing my rump, too :-)
